Population: The number of black kites in Kazakhstan has not been precisely established, but it is estimated to be from 5 to 10 thousand individuals. The species is widespread and its numbers variesby season. The global population is estimated to be between 4.1 million and 5.6 million adults, butthese data also require further confirmation.

Status: Non-game species but with ecological and cultural significance.

Habitat: The black kite nests and is commonly seen migrating over almost all of Kazakhstan, including high-altitude areas such as the Great Almaty Lake, but excluding steppe and desert areas.
