Population: The global population is estimated at 420-600 thousand individuals. There are 55-86 thousand mature individuals in Europe. A common, sometimes numerous, nesting migratory bird in Kazakhstan.  

Status. Non-endangered game animal

Habitat.  It breeds in the southern half of Kazakhstan north to the Kamysh-Samara Lakes, Ilek, Kostanay, Kokshetau, Semey and the Black Irtysh. It is found everywhere on nomads and overflights, sometimes wintering south of Turkestan, as well as on Sorbulak in the Almaty region.
