Population: Unevenly distributed across theregion. About 10 individuals have been recorded in Ustyurt.
Status. A rare and endangered species (Category I).
Habitat. In Kazakhstan, the caracal is found in the Mangystau region, including areas such as Ustirt, the Bozashy, Mangyshlak, and Tuparagan peninsulas, as well as in large sandy massifs like Karynzharyk, Tuesu, Bostankum, Sengirkum,Sam, Mataikum, and others. Historically, it was also present in Northern Kyzylkum.
