Population: The total number is estimated at 5-10 million individuals. There are 2.6–5.53 million mature individuals in Europe. In Kazakhstan, it is a common nesting migratory bird, there is no data on the total number.

Habitat. It breeds everywhere and is found during migrations in steppe, desert and forested plains, as well as in the mountains of Altai (Lake Markakol). In the 1960s, singles wintered in Almaty.
