Population: the usual, widespread type. Population data is fragmentary. For example, about 1,270 buzzards can nest in the Zhambyl district of the North Kazakhstan region. A preliminary estimate of the global buzzard population is 2-3.4 million adults, but these data require further confirmation.  

Status. Non-endangered species with economic value other than hunting.

Habitat.  The buzzard nests in the valley of the middle reaches of the Zhaiyk, in Northern Kazakhstan, on the Kokshetau highlands, in the forests of the Kazakh Melkosopochnik mountain groups, in Kalba, in the Southwestern Altai and the Black Irtysh. It is occasionally found in the Naurzum forest. It is found everywhere during the migration period. It lives in floodplain forests, as well as in lowland and mountainous coniferous forests with nearby open steppe areas.
