Population: The global population is estimated at 3.6–4.5 million individuals. There are 590,000 – 1.28 million mature individuals in Europe. It does not nest in Kazakhstan; it is a common, sometimes numerous passing bird.  

Status. Non-endangered species with economic value other than hunting

Habitat.  It is found everywhere in the wetlands of lowland Kazakhstan during the migration period, and occasionally in the mountains on Lake Markakol.
