Population: The global population is estimated at 2.6–2.9 million individuals. There are 1.1–1.48 million mature individuals in Europe. In Kazakhstan, it is a common nesting bird and numerous in flight, there is no data on the total number.
Status. Non-endangered game animal
Habitat. It breeds in the northern half of Kazakhstan south to the lower reaches of Irgiz, Turgai, Kengir estuary, Ust-Kamenogorsk district, Lake Markakol, upper reaches of Bukhtarma and foothills of Altai Tarbagatai.
