Population: There is no up-to-date information on the abundance of the species.  

Status. Category II – catastrophically declining;

Habitat.  Currently, in Kazakhstan, it is found in the upper reaches of the Ilek River and its tributaries: Turgen, Shelek, Sharyn, Uzbek system of reservoirs, including the Oba river. In the past, a fairly widespread subspecies.
