Population: The population in Kazakhstan is estimated at about 300,000 individuals.  

Status. Non-endangered game animal

Habitat.  Initially, the muskrat was distributed in near-aquatic biotopes of North America, then acclimatized in a number of Eurasian countries, including Kazakhstan. By 1950, it was already found and fished in most regions of Kazakhstan. The muskrat is an ecologically flexible species, it independently and successfully settles in all wetlands of the country.
