Population: The global population is estimated at 500,000 – 2.5 million mature individuals. In Kazakhstan, it is a common nesting migratory bird, there are no figures for the total number.  

Status. Non-endangered species with economic value other than hunting

Habitat.  It inhabits the reservoirs of the entire territory of lowland Kazakhstan, winters in small numbers south of Turkestan and Shymkent. On nomads, he occasionally visits mountain reservoirs (Lake Markakol).
