Population: The global population is estimated at 450-780 thousand individuals. There are 108-151 thousand mature individuals in Europe. A common nesting migratory bird in Kazakhstan, there are no numbers.  

Status. Non-endangered species of no economic value, but with ecological and cultural significance

Habitat.  It breeds in the wetlands of a significant part of Kazakhstan north to the Kamysh-Samara lakes, Naurzum, Petropavlovsk and Zaisan basin. In 1989, it was found on a nest site in a number of settlements of Pavlodar Priirtyshye and Zairtyshye. It is found almost everywhere on the fly.
