Population: The preliminary estimate of the global population is 14-25.25 million mature individuals. In Europe, the breeding population is 5.6–10.1 million mature individuals. There is a common nesting migratory bird in Kazakhstan, there is no data on the total number.  

Status. A species that is not used for economic purposes, but has ecological, cultural, or other value.

Habitat.  It breeds mainly in the southern half of Kazakhstan, north to Ilek and the mountains of Aktau, Naurzum, Uly-Zhylanshyk, the southern coast of Balkhash, Semey, Berezovka and Narym. There are known flights to Lake Zharkol, south of Ishim and to Korgalzhyn.
