Population: In Kazakhstan, the total number of the Demoiselle Craneis between 50-60 thousand individuals. About 25 thousand individuals live in Central Kazakhstan, and there are approximately 3.7 thousand to 3.8 thousand pairs in the Kostanay region.

Status: A restored but rare and endangered species (CategoryV).

Habitat: The southern steppes and semi-deserts of Eurasia and North Africa. Between the 1960s and 1980s, its range decreased and became fragmented, but by the end of thecentury, it began to expand its range both to the south and to the north. It winters in Africa, western Asia, and India. In Kazakhstan, it inhabits steppes and semi-deserts, penetrating far into the desert and mountainous areas of the southeast.
